COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for Virtual Facilitation Services

What is virtual facilitation?

Virtual facilitation is the process of guiding conversations and decision-making in an online setting using structured methods. It helps teams stay focused, engaged, and aligned even when they are not in the same physical space. Our facilitators use tools like Zoom, Miro, and Google Workspace to create clear agendas and interactive experiences. Sessions include breakout discussions, real-time collaboration, and accessible follow-up resources. This ensures the work moves forward with clarity and shared understanding.

How is virtual facilitation different from a regular online meeting?

A typical meeting often lacks structure and may rely on one or two voices. Virtual facilitation introduces intentional design, time awareness, and inclusive processes to get the most from the group. The facilitator manages flow, supports group dynamics, and ensures everyone has the opportunity to contribute. This is especially important when teams are distributed or dealing with complex topics. The result is a more productive, balanced conversation with clear outcomes.

What kinds of sessions work well with virtual facilitation?

Strategic planning, team development, opportunity exploration, and stakeholder engagement all translate well to virtual formats. We also facilitate decision-making, cross-functional collaboration, and training sessions online. The key is having a clear goal and the right design to support that goal. We help you choose tools, timelines, and activities that match the outcomes you want. Even multi-day retreats can be facilitated virtually with proper pacing and variation.

Can virtual facilitation work for large groups?

Yes, virtual facilitation is effective for small teams and large groups alike. For larger sessions, we use breakout rooms, structured prompts, and collaborative tools to manage flow and interaction. Our facilitators are trained to handle group dynamics and energy even in remote settings. We also help you manage tech logistics, time zones, and communication plans. The result is a session that feels cohesive and accessible for all participants.

What tools do you use for virtual facilitation?

We commonly use Zoom for video conferencing, Miro or MURAL for visual collaboration, and Google Docs or Sheets for real-time input. Depending on your team’s preferences, we can adapt to internal tools like Teams or Webex. Tool selection is based on your comfort level and session goals. We provide guidance and orientation for participants as needed. The focus is on functionality and ease of participation.

How do you keep virtual sessions engaging?

We design sessions with variety, pacing, and interaction in mind. This includes breakout discussions, individual reflection, live polling, and real-time collaboration. Sessions include clear goals, visual supports, and practical takeaways. Our facilitators read the group’s energy and adjust as needed to avoid fatigue. We aim to keep participants present and focused from start to finish.

Can you support hybrid teams with both in-person and virtual participants?

Yes, we regularly facilitate hybrid sessions where some participants are in the room and others join remotely. These sessions require careful planning around audio, visibility, and equal engagement. We work with your tech setup and physical space to design an inclusive experience. Hybrid facilitation requires more coordination but can be highly effective when done well. Our role is to make sure no one feels left out of the conversation.

How far in advance should we book a virtual facilitation session?

We recommend booking at least three to four weeks in advance to allow time for discovery, design, and technical prep. For larger groups or multi-day formats, more time may be needed. If you have an urgent need, we can often accommodate short timelines depending on availability. Early planning helps ensure we select the right tools, structure, and facilitator for your group.
