COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for Vancouver Island Facilitator

What kinds of facilitation services are available on Vancouver Island?

Facilitators on Vancouver Island support strategic planning, organizational retreats, community consultations, and team development sessions. These services are tailored to your goals, group size, and setting. Whether you’re planning in Tofino, Victoria, or Courtenay, the session is adapted to your location. Every workshop is designed to build engagement, clarity, and momentum.

How do Vancouver Island facilitators approach local organizations?

Facilitators working in the region often understand the mix of rural, municipal, and nonprofit dynamics common to Vancouver Island. They design sessions that reflect local culture, communication preferences, and relationship-based decision-making. We support sessions that respect diverse voices and local priorities. This creates a facilitation style that feels grounded and authentic.

Do facilitators travel to remote parts of the Island?

Yes, facilitation services are available throughout the Island, including more remote locations. We’ve worked in coastal communities and inland areas and are familiar with travel logistics. Sessions can be held on-site or at a neutral venue, depending on your needs. We help plan for timing, transportation, and connectivity if needed.

Are online or hybrid facilitation options available for Island-based teams?

Virtual and hybrid formats are commonly used for Vancouver Island teams, especially when participants are spread across locations. Online tools like Zoom and Miro allow for inclusive, structured participation. Hybrid options are available when some team members join remotely while others meet in person. The format is designed to ensure everyone’s input is captured.

What industries use facilitation on Vancouver Island?

Facilitators support organizations in healthcare, education, government, community development, and small business. Many teams face complex decisions or communication challenges that benefit from neutral guidance. We’ve worked with local governments, First Nations, and multi-stakeholder groups. Sessions are tailored to match the context of each organization.

How far ahead should we book a facilitator for Vancouver Island?

It’s best to plan 4 to 6 weeks in advance, especially for in-person facilitation. This allows time for agenda design, travel planning, and pre-session coordination. Last-minute sessions may be possible depending on availability. Booking early gives you more flexibility on dates and facilitator match.

What should we expect during a facilitation session on Vancouver Island?

Facilitated sessions include structured exercises, group discussions, and clear steps toward your stated goals. Facilitators help your team surface insights, make decisions, and document outcomes. The tone is participatory and respectful, with space for everyone to contribute. You’ll leave with clear next actions and alignment.

How do we prepare for a session?

Most preparation is handled through a discovery call and agenda design with the facilitator. You may be asked to share context or materials beforehand. Participants usually don’t need to prepare beyond showing up with openness and intention. We take care of logistics, tools, and timing.
