COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for Ottawa, ON Facilitator

What does a facilitator bring to an Ottawa-based session?

A facilitator offers structured support to help teams navigate priorities and build alignment. In a policy-driven and bilingual city like Ottawa, it’s helpful to have a neutral guide who can manage different viewpoints and roles. Facilitators bring experience with group dynamics and process design. Their job is to make sure discussions stay productive and inclusive.

How can facilitation improve our strategic meetings?

Strategic sessions often involve big ideas and competing goals. A facilitator helps keep the conversation grounded, clarifies decision points, and ensures everyone contributes meaningfully. Ottawa organizations often operate with multiple stakeholders, and facilitation helps build shared commitment. The result is a plan your team can act on with confidence.

Do you work with both private and public sector clients in Ottawa?

Yes, we regularly work with federal teams, non-profits, education institutions, and private organizations across Ottawa. Each group brings its own set of priorities, and we tailor our approach accordingly. Facilitation works best when it’s shaped around your specific culture, objectives, and constraints. Whether you’re planning a retreat or leading change, we adapt to fit your needs.

What happens during a facilitated workshop?

Workshops include structured activities, guided discussions, and checkpoints for synthesis and action planning. Your facilitator will pose questions, manage time, and adapt the flow based on group energy. These sessions are not lectures — they are participatory and designed to build momentum. We focus on progress, not just participation.

Can you support hybrid or virtual facilitation for Ottawa teams?

Absolutely. Many Ottawa organizations have hybrid structures or remote participants across provinces. We use platforms like Zoom, Miro, and Google Workspace to keep sessions interactive and productive. Our approach is equally effective in person or online, depending on your needs.

How do you ensure bilingual or multilingual inclusion in sessions?

We offer facilitation in both English and French, and we design with accessibility in mind. This includes bilingual materials, co-facilitators when needed, and thoughtful pacing for translation. In a city like Ottawa, this ensures that language is never a barrier to participation. It also strengthens the outcomes by respecting how people think and communicate best.

Where can we host a facilitation session in Ottawa?

We’ve facilitated in downtown boardrooms, government buildings, hotel conference rooms, and offsite locations like Gatineau Park. Sessions can also happen within your own workplace if space allows. We’re happy to help you choose a venue that matches your goals and team size. We also offer support for planning multi-day offsites in the region.

What outcomes should we expect after facilitation?

You can expect increased clarity, shared understanding, and clear action steps. Many clients also report better relationships and more open communication among their team. We deliver a written summary of key insights and agreed-upon next steps. That way, the work done during the session continues afterward.
