COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

Canada Facilitator FAQs

What does a professional facilitator do?

A facilitator guides structured conversations to help groups think clearly, collaborate effectively, and make aligned decisions. Their role is not to give answers, but to create space where participants can share insight, surface tension, and move forward with clarity. Facilitators bring frameworks, objectivity, and tools that help groups stay focused. Whether you’re mapping strategy, addressing team dynamics, or hosting a retreat, a facilitator helps ensure your time together is productive. At Positive Impact Professional Development, our facilitators support teams across Canada with customized, outcome-focused sessions.

Why should we hire a facilitator instead of leading the session ourselves?

When internal leaders run the session, they often can’t fully participate in the conversation. A neutral facilitator allows everyone—especially leadership—to contribute without managing the room. Facilitators also help surface tough topics without bias, keep the process moving, and create space for equal contribution. This supports better listening, stronger decisions, and more trust across the group. Hiring a facilitator is especially valuable when clarity, alignment, or collaboration are core goals.

What kinds of sessions do your facilitators lead in Canada?

Our facilitators lead strategic planning meetings, executive offsites, team alignment sessions, and professional development workshops. We also support retreats, stakeholder engagement processes, and facilitated dialogue across functions or organizations. Each session is built around your goals and delivered in-person or online. We adapt to regional, cultural, and organizational dynamics across Canada. Whether it’s a single session or multi-phase process, we help create forward movement.

Do you offer bilingual facilitation services?

Yes, we offer facilitation in English and can arrange for French or bilingual delivery upon request. This is important for national organizations, federal agencies, and teams across Quebec or Eastern Canada. We match facilitators to your language needs and adapt materials accordingly. Clear communication is central to effective facilitation. We ensure language never becomes a barrier to participation.

Can you support remote or hybrid facilitation for Canadian teams?

Absolutely. Our team regularly facilitates remote and hybrid sessions using tools like Zoom, Miro, Google Workspace, and more. We design interactive virtual experiences that replicate the engagement of in-person sessions. This allows teams across provinces and time zones to participate fully. Whether your team is fully remote or in a hybrid model, we bring structure and clarity to the experience. Virtual delivery also offers flexibility when travel isn’t practical.

Are your facilitators based in Canada?

Yes, our network includes experienced facilitators across major Canadian regions. From Vancouver and Calgary to Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax, we understand local dynamics while supporting national conversations. When needed, we also travel to your location or deliver hybrid formats. All sessions are customized based on your goals, industry, and regional context. Our Canadian base gives us strong insight into cross-cultural team needs.

How do you ensure facilitation meets our specific needs?

Every session begins with a discovery process where we learn about your goals, team structure, and current challenges. We ask targeted questions, review relevant materials, and co-design the agenda with you. Our facilitators then adapt in real time, balancing structure with responsiveness. We don’t use a cookie-cutter approach—each session is shaped around your team’s real context. The result is facilitation that feels relevant, clear, and grounded.

How far in advance should we book a Canadian facilitator?

Booking three to six weeks in advance is ideal to ensure the right fit and allow for planning. If your session involves multiple teams, data review, or travel, we may need additional lead time. That said, we occasionally accommodate shorter timelines. Reach out early and we’ll explore availability together. We’ll guide you through next steps and recommend the best format based on your goals.
