COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for Calgary, AB Facilitator

What types of facilitation can a Calgary facilitator support?

Facilitators in Calgary support a wide range of needs including executive retreats, strategy sessions, team development, and board alignment. Each session is designed around your team’s priorities and organizational goals. Whether you’re focused on decision-making or collaboration, a facilitator ensures structure and momentum. Services can be delivered in-person or virtually, depending on logistics.

How does a facilitator differ from a consultant or coach?

Facilitators guide process and participation, whereas consultants provide subject matter expertise and coaches focus on personal growth. A facilitator’s role is to remain neutral and help your team surface insights and agreements. This ensures everyone’s voice is heard while staying on task. Their strength lies in shaping how conversations unfold, not what decisions are made.

Can Calgary facilitators work with industry-specific teams?

Yes, many Calgary facilitators have experience working with energy, nonprofit, healthcare, education, and tech sectors. They customize their approach to align with your organization’s terminology and culture. This familiarity helps create relevant examples and encourages more engaged participation. Context always matters in design and delivery.

How do we choose the right facilitator?

The best facilitator for your group will understand your goals, align with your communication style, and adapt to your team’s dynamics. Ask about their experience with similar clients and request a discovery call. A good facilitator will also share an outline or methodology to build trust early. Fit matters just as much as skill.

Are facilitated sessions confidential?

Yes, professional facilitators prioritize confidentiality and psychological safety. Ground rules are often established at the beginning of the session to reinforce this. Participants are encouraged to share openly without concern of external reporting. This helps build trust and deepen discussion.

Can facilitators support multi-day planning sessions?

Calgary facilitators often design and lead multi-day retreats or extended sessions for strategic planning. These allow time for relationship-building, future-mapping, and actionable planning. Spacing out activities gives teams the chance to reflect, reset, and regroup. Breaks and varied formats keep the energy high throughout.

Is virtual facilitation effective for Calgary teams?

Yes, virtual facilitation has become increasingly effective, especially for hybrid and remote teams. Calgary facilitators use digital collaboration tools like Miro or Zoom to keep conversations structured. Visual frameworks and breakout groups maintain focus and engagement. The experience is carefully designed for screen-based delivery.

What’s the value of using a third-party facilitator?

Third-party facilitators bring neutrality and focus. They’re not entangled in internal politics or power structures, which allows them to manage dynamics objectively. This creates space for more honest dialogue. Having an external guide also frees leadership to fully participate rather than lead.

Do Calgary facilitators offer follow-up support?

Some facilitators provide follow-up reports, coaching sessions, or accountability check-ins after the session ends. These help teams implement decisions and track progress over time. Support can be ongoing or offered at milestones. It depends on your needs and budget.

How early should we book facilitation services?

To secure your preferred dates and allow for discovery, it’s best to book 4–6 weeks in advance. This gives time to co-design the session and gather pre-session input. Some facilitators may have shorter availability for urgent needs. Early outreach ensures the right fit and preparation.
