COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

Each session is custom-built to reflect your goals, team culture, and timing. Whether in person or virtual, sessions are designed to drive clarity, participation, and meaningful outcomes. The format often includes a mix of discussion, structured exercises, and synthesis.

How do facilitators tailor sessions to Vancouver’s professional culture?

Vancouver’s organizational culture often values collaboration, equity, and thoughtful decision-making. Facilitators in the region design sessions that reflect these priorities while also adapting to your team’s communication norms. The process draws on active listening and inclusive engagement tools. This helps ensure everyone feels respected and involved in key conversations.

Are sessions held in-person, online, or hybrid?

Facilitation can be offered in whatever format best suits your group. Many clients choose in-person facilitation for deeper relationship-building, while others opt for virtual or hybrid due to logistics. Sessions can be held at your office, offsite venues, or online using collaborative platforms. Each approach includes structured design to keep the group on track.

What makes facilitation in Vancouver, BC different from other cities?

The Vancouver context brings a mix of civic engagement, innovation, and social responsibility into organizational life. Facilitators here often draw on participatory frameworks and inclusive practices. Sessions may also incorporate wellness elements like mindfulness or reflection periods. This creates an atmosphere of psychological safety and focus.

What organizations benefit from facilitation in Vancouver?

Non-profits, corporations, government teams, and educational institutions all use facilitation to navigate challenges or plan ahead. Facilitation works well when multiple voices need to be heard or alignment is required. Whether your team is new or long-standing, a facilitator helps clarify direction and build trust. Small, medium, and large teams all benefit from the process.

What topics can be addressed in a Vancouver facilitation session?

Common topics include strategy, values, team dynamics, leadership development, and project planning. Sessions can also focus on repairing communication breakdowns or building shared commitments. The facilitator works with you to design an agenda that fits your current needs. Your team will leave with clarity, priorities, and momentum.

How do we prepare for a facilitated session?

Facilitators typically begin with a short intake or discovery call. You’ll be asked about goals, challenges, and the people in the room. This helps shape the session structure and tools used. You don’t need to over-prepare, but having alignment on objectives helps maximize your time.

How soon should we schedule a facilitation session in Vancouver?

Booking 3 to 6 weeks in advance gives enough time to design and prepare. High-demand seasons like spring and fall can fill faster. We recommend reaching out early to find a date that works for your group. Some urgent sessions can be accommodated on shorter notice depending on availability.
