COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

Professional Development Facilitator FAQs

What does a professional development facilitator do?

A professional development facilitator guides learning experiences that help individuals and teams grow critical workplace skills. Rather than lecturing, they use interactive techniques that spark reflection, practice, and group dialogue. Facilitators help identify growth areas and support the transfer of learning into real work settings. Their focus is always on creating meaningful change, not just delivering information.

How is this different from a trainer or coach?

Trainers typically deliver content, while coaches work one-on-one to support personal goals. Facilitators work with groups to co-create learning through structured exercises, group reflection, and collaborative problem-solving. Their role is neutral, ensuring all voices are heard and helping the team surface insight. They’re especially useful when learning needs to be applied in a shared context or culture.

What topics can a professional development facilitator support?

Facilitators can support a wide range of topics, including communication, leadership, conflict resolution, strategic thinking, and collaboration. Sessions are customized to reflect your organization’s goals, challenges, and culture. Some focus on behavior change, while others emphasize mindset or skill building. The process is adapted to support both individual growth and team alignment.

How do you structure a professional development session?

Sessions are typically designed around clear objectives and include a mix of reflection, discussion, real-time application, and feedback. We may use models, frameworks, or case studies to support learning. Activities are chosen based on group size, format, and topic. Each session closes with key takeaways and specific next steps.

Who should participate in professional development facilitation?

Any group with a shared goal or development need can benefit from facilitated sessions. This includes leadership teams, department groups, or cross-functional cohorts. We also support high-potential individuals or emerging leaders who need space to reflect and grow together. The structure allows for peer learning and deeper understanding of shared challenges.

Can these sessions be done virtually?

Yes, we offer fully virtual sessions that include breakout groups, digital whiteboards, and other interactive tools. Facilitators adapt their approach to ensure remote participants stay engaged and connected. Sessions are scheduled to accommodate time zones and team availability. Whether in-person or online, the experience is designed to be practical and energizing.

How is success measured in professional development facilitation?

We work with you to define success at the outset, often using feedback tools, reflection prompts, or follow-up check-ins. Some clients measure impact through behavior change, team surveys, or post-session planning. We also provide debriefs or summary documents that capture insights and commitments. Ongoing support can be arranged to sustain momentum.

How often should we run professional development workshops?

The frequency depends on your goals and team needs. Some organizations run quarterly sessions tied to strategic goals, while others schedule as needed based on team challenges. Ongoing learning creates a culture of growth, accountability, and adaptability. We help design rhythms that match your team’s pace and capacity.
