COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for Alberta Facilitator

What kinds of facilitation do you offer in Alberta?

We support strategic planning, team alignment, leadership development, and stakeholder engagement across Alberta. Facilitation can be tailored for government departments, nonprofits, and private-sector groups. Whether your organization is in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, or smaller communities, sessions are designed to reflect local context. We also offer hybrid and fully virtual facilitation options.

Do you provide facilitation services outside major cities in Alberta?

Yes, we regularly work with rural communities, Indigenous organizations, and regional associations throughout the province. We travel to facilitate in-person sessions in places like Red Deer, Grande Prairie, and Medicine Hat. Travel logistics are handled with care to ensure accessibility. Our goal is to support meaningful dialogue wherever teams are located.

Are your facilitators familiar with Alberta’s nonprofit and public sectors?

Our team has extensive experience working within Alberta’s community and government landscapes. We’ve facilitated initiatives involving public policy, municipal planning, nonprofit strategy, and education. This background allows us to design processes that align with provincial frameworks and stakeholder priorities. Every engagement starts with understanding your specific context.

What topics are most commonly addressed in Alberta-based facilitation?

Strategic goal-setting, leadership clarity, organizational change, and interdepartmental collaboration are frequently requested. Groups often bring us in when navigating growth, transitions, or decision-making complexity. We also support session design for retreats, engagement forums, and board development. Each process is shaped by your team’s purpose and current priorities.

Do you offer bilingual facilitation in Alberta?

Yes, bilingual facilitation is available in English and French when needed. We also support culturally inclusive sessions in collaboration with Indigenous communities. Facilitation approaches are adapted to reflect the needs and preferences of participants. Language accessibility helps foster trust and full engagement.

How do you design sessions for Alberta teams?

We begin with a discovery process to understand your team’s objectives, existing dynamics, and desired outcomes. From there, we co-develop a facilitation plan that includes session structure, tools, and length. We also account for geographic and cultural considerations in planning. The process ensures relevance and alignment with your organization’s needs.

Can you work with distributed teams across Alberta?

Yes, many of our Alberta clients have team members in different cities or regions. We offer both virtual facilitation and hybrid models to support participation from all locations. Technology tools are chosen based on your team’s familiarity and comfort. Remote facilitation is equally engaging with the right structure.

How do we begin planning a facilitation session?

Start by reaching out to share your goals, team size, and timing. We’ll then suggest a facilitation approach and co-create a draft agenda. Once the session is confirmed, we handle preparation and logistics to support delivery. The process is collaborative and designed to reduce stress on your end.
