COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for Team Development Facilitator

What does a team development facilitator do?

A team development facilitator guides groups through intentional conversations and structured exercises to strengthen performance and cohesion. They help uncover gaps in communication, collaboration, or trust that may be holding the group back. The role includes designing experiences that fit the team’s stage and goals. Rather than dictate content, they support teams in creating their own breakthroughs.

How is team development different from team building?

Team development focuses on deeper dynamics like trust, accountability, and conflict resolution. While team building often includes fun activities or bonding experiences, development aims for lasting change in how teams operate. It often includes feedback loops, clarity around roles, and shared commitments. Both approaches can complement each other, but the outcomes differ.

When is the right time to bring in a facilitator?

Any time the team is facing change, growing quickly, or encountering friction, facilitation can help. It’s also useful when launching new projects, integrating departments, or navigating leadership transitions. Bringing in a facilitator ensures those moments are used intentionally. Rather than waiting for problems to escalate, you can invest in alignment early.

Do you use assessments or diagnostics in the process?

Yes, we often start with input tools like team effectiveness surveys, leadership self-assessments, or communication style frameworks. These create a shared starting point for dialogue and focus areas. Results are discussed openly and integrated into the session design. This ensures the experience is both grounded and actionable.

Can this be done virtually?

Yes, team development sessions can be delivered virtually using interactive platforms and tools. We ensure participation, psychological safety, and momentum are preserved online. From whiteboarding to breakout discussions, digital facilitation is tailored to the group’s comfort and context. We also provide tech onboarding and pre-session preparation.

How long does a typical engagement last?

Team development can take place over a single session or span multiple sessions depending on goals. Some teams benefit from one deep-dive day, while others may need ongoing facilitation over weeks or months. We’ll design an approach that fits your cadence, budget, and capacity. You’ll know what to expect before we begin.

Do you work with leadership teams or intact work groups?

Both. We work with executive teams, cross-functional project groups, and departmental teams at all levels. Each group has different dynamics, and our design reflects that. Whether you’re building shared direction or resolving tension, we adapt our process accordingly.

How do you ensure long-term impact?

We help you build the conditions for lasting change. This includes clarity around next steps, agreements on follow-up behaviors, and tools for continued check-ins. Optional coaching or asynchronous supports can also reinforce commitments. Our goal is sustainable growth, not a one-time experience.
