COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

Corporate Retreat Facilitator FAQs

What does a corporate retreat facilitator do?

A corporate retreat facilitator guides group sessions during offsite company gatherings to ensure structure, participation, and meaningful outcomes. They support your team in reflecting on challenges, identifying goals, and engaging in open, productive conversations. Their role includes designing the session flow, managing group dynamics, and keeping the retreat aligned with its intended purpose. This allows leaders to fully participate rather than lead the process themselves.

Why hire a facilitator for a corporate retreat?

Facilitators bring neutrality and experience to ensure time is used effectively and conversations remain constructive. Without a facilitator, retreats can drift off course or leave participants unclear on next steps. With structured guidance, the team can focus on trust-building, strategy, and clear alignment. A facilitator also helps balance participation so all voices are heard.

What types of retreats benefit from facilitation?

Strategy retreats, team alignment sessions, leadership offsites, and planning retreats all benefit from a facilitator. Whether the focus is relationship-building or decision-making, guided facilitation increases impact. Sessions may include goal setting, scenario planning, or clarifying team commitments. Any retreat with a clear purpose and multiple voices involved can benefit from external guidance.

How is the agenda developed for a corporate retreat?

Facilitators collaborate with your leadership team to understand the retreat’s goals, team context, and key challenges. Together, we design a session that reflects your strategic needs and supports engagement from all participants. The agenda typically includes a mix of reflection, collaboration, and planning exercises. It is shaped to match your priorities and ensure clear outcomes.

Can retreats include both strategic planning and team-building?

Yes, most retreats combine elements of both, balancing relationship-building with focused business conversations. Facilitators design sessions that build trust while also addressing core priorities. Activities can shift between open dialogue, creative problem-solving, and structured exercises. The key is aligning the format to your team’s current stage and goals.

What are the benefits of holding the retreat offsite?

Holding retreats away from the office removes daily distractions and encourages more focused engagement. It creates an environment that promotes fresh thinking, honest dialogue, and deeper connection among team members. Physical separation from routine often supports more creative and open discussion. The shift in setting helps people step back and reset together.

How long should a corporate retreat be?

Retreats can run from one day to several days, depending on the team’s goals and complexity of the agenda. A full-day session may allow time for strategy, discussion, and informal connection. Multi-day retreats create space for deeper reflection and follow-through. The facilitator works with you to determine the best format and pacing.

What follow-up happens after the retreat?

We provide a summary of key insights, decisions, and next steps so your team can maintain momentum. Some clients also schedule a follow-up session or debrief to check in on implementation. Clear documentation ensures commitments are visible and actionable. Ongoing facilitation support can also be arranged if needed.
