COMS Communication Styles
COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.
COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.
Strategic Planning
This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.
As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

California Facilitator FAQs
What types of California organizations benefit from professional facilitation?
We work with tech companies, nonprofit organizations, entertainment industry teams, healthcare systems, and government agencies across California. Organizations often engage facilitators when facing strategic planning cycles, rapid growth challenges, or complex stakeholder decisions. In California’s innovation-driven economy, from Bay Area startups to established corporations and mission-driven nonprofits, facilitation provides the neutral structure needed for effective decision-making at scale. Learn more about why organizations hire facilitators.
How does facilitation support teams across California’s geographic spread?
California teams often span the Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and beyond. We facilitate both in-person sessions (typically at offsite venues or retreat centers) and virtual sessions that connect distributed teams across time zones and coastal distances. Our hybrid facilitation approach ensures full participation regardless of location, using structured exercises and collaborative tools that work across California’s diverse markets.
Can facilitation help resolve team conflict or communication breakdowns?
Yes. When California teams experience tension from hypergrowth, leadership changes, or strategic disagreements, facilitation creates a neutral space for productive dialogue. We use structured processes to surface underlying issues, clarify roles and responsibilities, and establish behavioral agreements. The goal is to move from circular discussions to clear action steps that restore team function and momentum. Read more about how facilitators help teams resolve conflict.
What does strategic planning facilitation look like in California?
Strategic planning sessions typically run 1-3 days, either in-person or across multiple virtual sessions. We guide leadership teams through clarifying vision, assessing current state, identifying strategic priorities, and developing actionable plans. For California organizations navigating market disruption, regulatory complexity, or scaling challenges, this structured approach ensures alignment and follow-through beyond the planning session. How do facilitators work with nonprofit organizations in California?
We have extensive experience with California nonprofits addressing mission alignment, board development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic growth. Our facilitation honors the values-driven nature of nonprofit work while maintaining focus on sustainable operations and measurable impact. We understand California’s unique nonprofit landscape, from environmental advocacy to social justice organizations, and design sessions that maximize the value of limited time and resources. Discover how facilitation helps nonprofits achieve goals.
Is facilitation effective for virtual or hybrid California teams?
Absolutely. We use platforms like Zoom and MURAL to create engaging virtual sessions for teams across California’s geography. Virtual facilitation includes breakout groups, visual collaboration boards, and structured exercises that maintain energy and participation. For hybrid teams with some members in San Francisco, others in Los Angeles, and remote workers statewide, we design sessions that ensure equal engagement from all participants. Learn about our virtual facilitation services.
What’s the difference between facilitation and training?
Training delivers specific content or skills. Facilitation guides your team through their own thinking, planning, and problem-solving. While we may introduce frameworks or tools, the core work involves surfacing your team’s knowledge and experience to reach decisions you own. This approach creates stronger buy-in and more sustainable outcomes than externally imposed solutions. Read our detailed comparison on the difference between facilitation and training.
How should California teams prepare for a facilitation session?
Clarify the session’s purpose and desired outcomes, identify the right participants (typically decision-makers and key stakeholders), and share any relevant background materials in advance. Consider logistics like venue selection across California’s metro areas or virtual access needs for distributed teams. We begin every engagement with a discovery call to understand your context, refine objectives, and design the session format. Strong preparation ensures maximum value from the time invested. For offsite planning specifically, see how to prepare for a strategic offsite.
Do you work with both for-profit and nonprofit organizations in California?
Yes. Our facilitation approach adapts to each sector’s distinct needs, from tech company strategic planning and rapid-growth leadership development to nonprofit board retreats and community stakeholder engagement. We understand the different decision-making structures, timelines, and success measures across sectors. This cross-sector experience helps us design sessions that fit your organizational culture and priorities. Tech companies face unique facilitation challenges that we’re equipped to navigate.
What outcomes can California teams expect from professional facilitation?
Teams typically leave sessions with clarified direction, documented decisions, assigned ownership, and concrete next steps. Beyond immediate outcomes, effective facilitation builds team capacity for better meetings, clearer communication, and more efficient decision-making. The investment in structured facilitation pays off in reduced meeting time, faster execution, and stronger team alignment, critical for California organizations operating in fast-moving, competitive markets. Learn how to measure the success of a facilitation session to track these outcomes.
