COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

Whistler, BC Facilitation FAQs

What types of facilitation sessions do you offer in Whistler?

We facilitate strategic planning, executive offsites, team alignment sessions, and leadership retreats in Whistler. Many groups come here for the setting, but stay for the focus—our sessions help you make the most of your time together. We also support stakeholder meetings and professional development workshops. Whether you’re building long-term strategy or addressing team dynamics, we design facilitation to match your goals. Each session balances structure with space for reflection and engagement.

Why is Whistler a good location for facilitated retreats?

Whistler offers a setting that helps teams step back from day-to-day operations and think more clearly. The natural environment encourages perspective, and the pace allows for deeper conversation. Holding an offsite here supports intentional planning, renewal, and connection. Our facilitators ensure the location adds to the session rather than distracting from it. We help teams use the environment as a backdrop for focus, not a substitute for clarity.

Do you work with both local organizations and visiting teams?

Yes, we work with Whistler-based organizations as well as teams traveling in for retreats or strategy sessions. Whether you’re a local nonprofit or a national team hosting an offsite, we tailor our approach to your structure and goals. We understand how to facilitate effectively in a retreat context. That includes balancing time, attention, and energy while making sure the work moves forward. Our facilitators bring experience in both local and large-scale settings.

Can your facilitators meet us onsite in Whistler?

Yes, we deliver in-person facilitation at Whistler venues including hotels, conference spaces, and private lodges. We’re familiar with many common retreat locations and can work directly with your venue or planning team. If you’re still deciding where to host your session, we can also advise on layout and setup. In-person facilitation allows for deeper connection, especially in multi-day sessions. We also offer hybrid formats if some participants are joining remotely.

How long should we plan for a Whistler facilitation session?

The most common formats are half-day, full-day, or multi-day retreats. We’ll help you match session length to your objectives and attention span of your team. Many groups benefit from two-day sessions with built-in reflection time. We also offer shorter, high-impact workshops if your time is limited. We’ll co-design the flow based on what you want to accomplish and how your team works best.

Can you integrate team-building into the facilitation?

Yes, we often blend structured facilitation with team-building elements. This can include reflective activities, group challenges, or values-based conversations. We avoid forced fun and focus on exercises that strengthen trust and communication. Whistler’s setting allows for flexibility—some teams choose outdoor components while others prefer focused indoor time. We’ll design the right level of engagement for your group.

What outcomes can we expect from a Whistler facilitation retreat?

Teams leave with greater clarity, stronger alignment, and a renewed sense of direction. The time away from day-to-day pressure creates space for deeper conversation and stronger commitments. Many groups also experience improved trust, clearer communication, and actionable strategies. Our facilitators ensure insights don’t stay on flip charts—they turn into next steps. We follow up as needed to support momentum after the session ends.

How far in advance should we book facilitation in Whistler?

We recommend booking 4 to 8 weeks ahead, especially for full-day or multi-day sessions. This allows time for planning, travel coordination, and pre-session design. If your dates are fixed, reaching out early helps us secure the right facilitator. We occasionally take on last-minute sessions, depending on availability. Contact us as soon as your dates are under consideration.
