COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles

COMS Communication Styles draws inspiration from Paul Costa and Robert McCrae’s research on the Big Five Personality Model, introducing how different personality styles prefer to communicate along the spectrums of result-driven vs. interpersonal and reflective vs. assertive.

COMS is an interactive communication styles exploration. Through answering 8 strategically designed questions, you and your team will gain valuable insights into how individuals tend to communicate and interact. By visualising this into a simple but effective grid and delivering an interactive workshop, it can be instrumental in improving team dynamics, reducing conflict, and fostering more effective communication across the organization. Each of the four identified style has its strengths in different contexts. Your team will leave the session knowing with a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse communication styles as well as how to leverage each approach and adapt their style to maximize impact and drive positive outcomes.

Strategic Planning

This isn’t just another corporate exercise – it’s a chance for you to engage your team in the planning and execution of the organization and an opportunity to align on strategic planning initiatives and actions.

As strategic planning facilitators, we guide organizations through the strategic planning process. We don’t dictate solutions to you, we enable your groups to co-create strategies based knowledge, experience and diversity. We create an environment conducive to open dialogue, innovation, critical thinking, and collaborative decision-making. This role is distinct in that it focuses on empowering your organization rather than imposing external ideas. Our award-winning facilitators are catalysts for transformative decision-making and planning. We do, however, offer guidance and insight into how other organizations operate and offer suggestions you may wish to implement. To us, strategic planning is more than just a single planning session. We work with our clients to help them navigate the strategic plan throughout the months and even years ahead. With our objective lens, we are well-positioned to offer insights into the strategic plan and execution tactics.

FAQs for St. John’s, NL Facilitation

What kinds of facilitation sessions do teams in St. John’s typically request?

Most teams in St. John’s request support for strategic planning, team development, or collaboration workshops. We also work with boards and cross-functional groups navigating change. Each facilitation is tailored to the group’s purpose and context. Our job is to keep the process focused, participatory, and outcome-driven.

How do you design facilitation to fit our team’s size and structure?

We scale our facilitation model to suit large departments, tight-knit teams, or blended stakeholder groups. Design considerations include time constraints, interpersonal dynamics, and strategic goals. The structure is built around what will create the most clarity and engagement. Every format is intentionally chosen.

Do you offer facilitation to government agencies or healthcare teams in St. John’s?

Yes, we work with public sector teams across Newfoundland and Labrador. Government departments, health authorities, and education partners often benefit from a structured third-party facilitator. Our neutral role supports objective dialogue and better decisions. We’re experienced working within complex systems.

How do you manage conflict or tension during facilitation?

Our facilitators anticipate friction and create space for disagreement without escalating tension. We use tools like norms-setting, framing questions neutrally, and small group exercises. This encourages trust while moving the group forward. Our approach is grounded in psychological safety and clarity.

Can facilitation support long-term organizational change?

Yes, facilitation is often the starting point for larger transformation work. Sessions help teams name priorities, identify barriers, and build shared understanding. We help create a strong foundation for implementation. Follow-up facilitation can support momentum and accountability.

What tools do you use during sessions?

We incorporate visual frameworks, sticky note mapping, digital whiteboards, and facilitated dialogue methods. Virtual sessions might include tools like Zoom, Miro, or MURAL. Everything used is designed to support clarity, input, and alignment. Tools are kept simple and purpose-driven.

Are sessions delivered in-person across Newfoundland or just in St. John’s?

We facilitate in St. John’s and travel throughout the province when requested. Whether you’re in Corner Brook or Gander, we can support your session. We also offer virtual options for remote or distributed teams. Travel planning is coordinated directly with you.

How much planning do you require before running a session?

Most sessions require at least two planning meetings and a discovery process. We use that time to clarify goals, align with leadership, and shape the session format. Preparation is essential for a smooth and effective experience. It’s a collaborative part of our process.
